Yes, it’s that time again! With the Haru Basho only days away, NHK World Japan is streaming their trademark Grand Sumo Preview show. Always worth the watch (my only knock is that it’s fairly short), it looks like we get an inside look at the yobidashi this time, which I am sure I will enjoy.
The show airs at 13:30 JST, and every 6 hours following that. So catch it on the NHK World Japan app, via a web browser, or wait for it to become watchable on demand about a day following.
With everything that has been going on in the sumo world lately, the 2020 Haru Basho is sure to be one to remember. While many spectators who planned to see sumo live at the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium this March can’t attend (sorry Josh), fans can still follow along from home with our trusty Tachiai Scorecards©!

Word from Japan today that in the wake of the decision to hold Osaka’s Haru Basho with no spectators, the spring jungyo has been canceled. The public relations director, Shibatayama oyakata (the former Onokuni) announced earlier on Thursday that the spring jungyo tour dates would be delayed until next year. While this is a disappointment for fans across Japan, the spread of the corona virus is becoming a fact of daily life. With it come cancelations to public gatherings and ceremonies of all types.
