The official rankings for the November tournament will be released Sunday or Monday, depending on where you are in the world. Fun fact—the banzuke is actually drawn up at a meeting on the Wednesday after the previous basho concludes, but it remains a closely guarded secret for several weeks; only the promotions to Juryo and any Ozeki and Yokozuna promotions are announced right away. In advance of the real thing, here is my guess. Scroll down for a few comments, which build on my banzuke preview post from a few weeks ago.

As mentioned in the preview post, I view K1w/M1e as a coin flip between Takayasu and Hakuoho. Further down, Atamifuji, Onokatsu, and Churanoumi could be rearranged in any order. There are huge gaps at M8e and M9w, which I’ve opted to fill with Ichiyamamoto and Tobizaru, though one could easily swap them. And there are many plausible solutions for the area from M11 to M14. In particular, Kotoshoho and Gonoyama are major wildcards.

Chiyoshoma……Been a while
This is presumptive speculation .. but given their respective historic performances, one wonders which of these rikishi will be “over ranked”, “under ranked”, and “appropriately ranked” .. with a predictable “corrective record” to be expected in Kyushu .. i.e. those that will fall + those that will rise post Kyushu .. e.g. Ura .. i love his sumo .. but have a hard time seeing him holding at M3 .. likewise Shodai at M5 .. Meanwhile a healthy Daieisho and Abi should climb the ranks post Kyushu ..
Yeah, those are good picks … one could look at everyone’s recent records to see how they’ve done at or near the projected rank …
4 rikishi with 7-8 score get to loose a bit of rank while 5 other rikishi with also 7-8 score get to stay at their exact spot ?!?!???
Oooooh ! Banzuke luck !!!! You can be such a trickster sometime.

I plumped for Hakuoho. Let’s see if they favor the old guard or the new this time around..
Nice to see Shishi and Roga side-by-side! I had that, too (although foolishly perhaps down one rung).
If I were making the official banzuke, I’d certainly put Hakuoho at K.
Yay, Cristal Ball time! I‘d really like to see Shodai at M5w. Oshoumi up pleases, too!
Don’t know much about my guess anymore, because I haven’t got an e-mail.
But I do remember that I have the same named ranks as U and I have Wakamotoharu pass the two sekiwake. And, as I almost always have at least one madness in my guesses, I kept Hitoshi at the cost of Chiyoshoma.
A busy work schedule kept me from submitting my guess but I kept all of the 7-8’s in place with the exception of Takayasu (moved to M1e). I tried to not overpromote but it was hard with the spate of make-koshi’s. Meisei didn’t make the cut and Fujiseiun did, giving me 4 promotions from Juryo. Agree with most of the placements, it will not surprise me if I did poorly with my non-entry.
I think you were overly lenient with Ichiyamamoto’s -2.5, Kotoshoho’s -7.5, Gonoyama’s -10.5 and Abi’s -6. They all deserved bigger drops. But your guesses are better than mine by far, so I will defer to the master.
Looking forward to the Kyushu Basho, and
(continuing my final thought) the continued success of Aonishiki. He is a fast-rising star with the potential to be the first European Yokozuna. He stays healthy and there’s no limit to his successes.
I feel like there was no option other than Abi at 7w (who would you put there, Tobizaru?) and similarly with Ichi, though there Tobizaru is a plausible alternative. The other two … have a lot of variance.
Yeah, Abi at M7w is arguably one of the very few consensus picks below M5. Nishikifuji at M15e might be the only other one.
On Aki banzuke Abi went only one rank up for nine wins, because no Komusubi slot was open. So they may be lenient now with his twelve losses.
