Reports coming in that Kakuryu will be kyujo from Day 1 of the Kyushu basho due to back pain. He was scheduled to face Asanoyama for musubi-no-ichiban. The order of bouts will be rearranged but Asanoyama will get the walkover win.

Obviously, this puts so much pressure on Hakuho once again to hang in for all 15 days. Many are, but I’m definitely not a fan of a tournaments without an Yokozuna, especially with a plethora of train wreck Ozeki in the mix. I do not want to see two rank-and-filers battling it out on day 15 for the championship.

So if the current top ranked yokozuna was forced to withdraw from the Fukuoka basho as he was taken to hospital in an ambulance it would be Kakuryu’s Kyukyusha Kyushu kyujo?

I’m not sure he would get kyoka from the kyokai.
