Bruce Kyujo From Nagoya Basho

The Tegata of Iain Henderson – July 8th 2022

Hello dear readers, it’s time for me to take a break from Tachiai. I apologise for straying from the theme of this blog, and into personal news.

Just before the start of the tournament, a horrible disaster befell my family. Our second child, who was to be born by July 22nd, died in utero without warning. It came as a shock to all, as the baby was healthy, good sized and developing well. Multiple examinations, scans, ultrasounds and all of that showed zero abnormalities.

With the paperwork finally done, the body of my second child has been released to us for burial. He will be laid to rest next to his grandparents in rural Illinois.

During this time when I attend to my family, the rest of Team Tachiai will be providing daily coverage, and I thank them for stepping in. I will return to writing prior to the Aki basho in September.

Thank you all for your well wishes and support

Bruce

  1. Dear Bruce,

My heart felt condolences to you, your wife, and your family. I’ve been where you are now twice in my life. Once with my wife and us losing a child in similar circumstances and once with one of my daughters losing a son (my grandson to be) in the same way.

You are a Yokozuna of a man all the way and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about this. We don’t know each other, but I’ll be praying for you and your family.

  3. Bruce I’m so, so sorry. We’ll be here excited for your thoughtful analysis and silly jokes when you’re ready to return to these more trivial endeavors.

  4. Bruce,

Very very sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you and your family.

I will look forward soon to reading the best sumo analysis and best sense of humor in September- it will return to you.

Love and Blessings to All of You

  5. Best wishes to you and family from a long-time reader but first comment.

As the comments above you are certainly not alone, it is sadly too common but rarely spoken of. Thank you for being open, I know that it helps others to empathize and perhaps deal with their own disasters.

All the best, and take care of each other.

  6. Dear Bruce and Family,

I am so sorry and offer my condolences on the loss of your beloved second son. I have had seven miscarriages with my last pregnancy ending in the later months – a set of fraternal twins. My heart and prayers are with you and your family at this most dark and difficult time. Bless you all. Call Sign Handwing USAF ret.
