Hello dear readers, it’s time for me to take a break from Tachiai. I apologise for straying from the theme of this blog, and into personal news.
Just before the start of the tournament, a horrible disaster befell my family. Our second child, who was to be born by July 22nd, died in utero without warning. It came as a shock to all, as the baby was healthy, good sized and developing well. Multiple examinations, scans, ultrasounds and all of that showed zero abnormalities.
With the paperwork finally done, the body of my second child has been released to us for burial. He will be laid to rest next to his grandparents in rural Illinois.
During this time when I attend to my family, the rest of Team Tachiai will be providing daily coverage, and I thank them for stepping in. I will return to writing prior to the Aki basho in September.

I am so sorry Bruce for you and your family. I hope your partner is managing as best she can. Our family experienced two miscarriages, one at a similarly late stage. I am very grateful you decided to share your experience, even as hard as it may be to do so.

My deepest condolences to you and your family, Bruce. My wife and I had two miscarriages. First trimester and second trimester. Those were some of the hardest times of our lives. People don’t really speak about them and I didn’t feel like I had anyone to talk to. Both of us fell into some pretty bad depression for a while. Thank you for being so open about your situation. I’m sure it will help others who may go through similar situations. My thoughts are with you and yours.

sometimes the worst pain you feel comes right before the beginning of something wonderful. that was our experience before the birth of our daughter in our 40’s.
