The US will present an award to the winner of this month’s tournament. There are many wonderful trophies and prizes, likely none as iconic as the macaron. There’s the air conditioner, beer, tequila, rice, beef, mushrooms, gas, etc. This month, on senshuraku, the US will enter the fray. What will it be? A “YUGE” cup? A giant chocolate golf ball? Na, too Scottish (sorry Bruce). Oscar Meyer wieners? Too German. A new car? Aside from the fact that the winner won’t be able to drive it, the Japanese already do that pretty well (except the airbags). It’s got to be something distinctively American. Corn? POPCORN?? FRITOS??? BUGLES??? I don’t think they’ll fit on Kotoshogiku’s fingers after he wins, though. (They actually have something similar in Japan, I think.) My wife thinks bacon. I’m very curious to hear what y’all think. Feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments.
Don’t dismiss a car too quickly. After all, there was a time when yusho winners received a year’s supply of gasoline. Was that from the UAE? Not sure.
If Ichinojo wins the Yusho, I’d recommend a large bucket of Ben & Jerry’s.

Well, there is this thing – which comes to mind as I read this thread. A bit down-tempo, but I find it soothing.

It is tempting to try to pick a food item. Doing some quick research on the internet, the first prize in the year 1900 was a kesho-mawashi. I’m going to go with a trophy. Will this be a 1-time award or will it be starting a recurring prize from the US? Another thought is 1-year of free internet for the heya, to symbolize fostering communication between our countries. Or maybe a years supply of KFC (Japan is the third-largest market for KFC after China and the United States with 1,165 outlets as of December 2014-wikipedia)
I hope it’s a recurring thing. I think it would be easier if it was a city or a state that was giving it. Something that sums up the whole country is hard, esp when trying not to be cynical or ironic. Maybe a trophy in the shape of the statue of liberty? 🗽 That would make the nightly news.
A Chicago pizza, extra large- maybe Giordano’s or Uno’s. It is the best in the country. ;)
And the mods are worried the political discussion could get weird? Let’s figure out whose pizza crust is the best to represent us! (Hint: It’s NYC’s.)
