Well, my early “un-shielded” post somewhat gave this away. So for followers of the site who have asked us for daily podcasts they can listen to while driving or riding the train to work, we have figured out how to have Alexa & Siri do it for us.
She is butchering Japanese words terribly, so I am hoping we can work with her on pronunciation.
This is going to be awesome, a huge step forward for the site!! Way to go Bruce!
March basho starts 11th not 22nd as listed on the ‘next basho’ column on yr feed..
You are correct, thank you. Dangers of too much Amazon coding, perhaps.
Off-topic: simulated reinforcement learning agents playing a sumo-like game learn to henka, is what this video ought to be entitled: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2EZBre2hp1_ZnpPM2NaT3VwNmM/view

Wow, so maybe another Alexa skill in the future… “Alexa, show Akebono fighting Ura”
If the video technology of people recreating likenesses improves, we may just have those sorts of things in the future. Though you’d have to have enough clear video footage of people of the necessary body types and all the different techniques.
We’ve regressed, judging by the Superbowl QB avatars
Aminishiki is math.
Fantastic to see the podcasts back
Well, more like an Alexa / Siri news feed. Should be hell-on-wheels during the basho. Many many problems to work out before it goes live, such as how to not need to spell the feed “ta chi eye” to get it pronounced correctly.
Are those little tanuki rikishi figurines? That’s totally cute.
I love this site, so informative and friendly. Thank you everyone!
(from a very recent fan of the sport)
Those are Re-Ment’s Hakkeyoi! Neko Rikishi that were put out in 2016.
Thanks.
Yes, they are indeed. Along with an (empty) bottle of a favorite sake, and an illustration of Ura. Plus assorted background junk from my work bench. Next time I will trot out the tanuki…
Always glad to see tanuki! Though actually, the tanuki figurines I’ve seen might have trouble tucking certain parts of their anatomy into a mawashi, I guess.
Oh, I’d pay money for an Alexa / Siri “国技館の大猫力士!” exhortation.
The Super Bowl commercial reminded me of this again, because I would certainly pay extra for better voices for the assistants.
Though I think you can train it to recognize commands in various languages as well. We’ve been slacking on doing much besides kitchen timers and tuning on colored lights.
Also don’t leave out us Google Home users please Bruce!
Am I the only Cortana user?
Cortana? Talk to me when they bring back her weird sister, Tay.
What? I’m going to have to Bing that one.

Oh, Lord. You tried to pass off “Bing” as a verb.
Go Directly to Jail.
Do not pass Go.
Do Not Collect $200.
As someone who has played Halo games, I have a visceral distrust of Cortana.
We used to use her dumber version with the Kinect on Xbone, until they made the new system incompatible with it.
