The Japan Sumo Association’s official website has been updated with the fight card for days one and two for the sekitori.  Lower divisions will likely fill in day 1 tomorrow (Japan time).  With such a long break with little or no sumo news from many favorites, fans are eager for competition to begin in just over a day.

Some matches of note

  • Kotoshogiku vs Takayasu
  • Abi vs Mitakeumi
  • Goeido vs Shodai
  • Endo vs Yoshikaze
  • Kaisei vs Takakeisho

We will have our usual daily preview ready later today.  It’s sumo time!

  1. The one that pops of the page for me is Hakuho v Tamawashi. Big Tam doesn’t do deference and always goes flat out so this one will give a good early clue to Hakuho’s mental and physical state. If he’s anything like his best he will win very easily.

  2. You forgot to mention: Wakaichiro vs. Kotosato on day 1. 😉

    My additions (day 1):

    Yoshoyama vs. Torakio
    Hoshoryu vs. Tagonofuji

And of course, the opening bout of the basho: Hattorizakura vs. Wakaoyama!

    • Wakaoyama is a 16-year-old, 147 pound newcomer who went 0-5 in maezumo. Big chance for Hat!

    • On the other hand… Wakaoyama is a 16-year-old, 147 pound newcomer who went 0-5 in maezumo. Looks like an insurmountable obstacle for Hat!
