Day 9 – The Hatsu Basho WTF

More on all of the odd things that happened on day 9 shortly, but you have to wonder what the hell happened between Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku. In a development that should not have surprised me, Kisenosato failed to hold on to his perfect record for even 24 hours, losing to the battered Ozeki Kotoshogiku.

It’s events like this that make me, and most other people who think Kisenosato has what it takes to be the best, think that Kisenosato could care less. Maybe it was a lifeline to Kotoshogiku, maybe he just choked. But this was really disappointing to anyone who thought Kisenosato had gotten his sumo together.
