Arawashi Defeats Hakuho

Kinboshi Leave Kisenosato Sole Leader

Hello from London! On day 8 in Tokyo, Arawashi was able to quickly overwhelm Yokozuna Hakuho, handing him his first loss of the Hatsu basho. It seems that Hakuho attempted to use the “death spin” that Harumafuji has employed so many times with great effect, but somehow got on the wrong end of the spin. It all happens in the blink of an eye, and even Hakuho seems to have been trying to figure out how it happened.

With Kisenosato’s win over Okinoumi, he is the sole leader (at least for today) of the basho. The implications for this could be huge. Suddenly, the path is open for Kisenosato to claim his first Yusho, it is now his to lose.

  1. Well…we have seen this dance before with Kisenosato. Will he get his first yusho? By now, my opinion, he should have had at least 2 or 3. I don’t know. Let’s see…but I’m not holding my breath.

    • I am not holding any hopes that Kisenosato is going to keep his act together. I think his loss to Kotoshogiku on day 9 is a screaming example of that.
