While our friends in Japan try to dry off, the rest of us are enjoying fall weather and looking forward to the Kyushu basho in 4 short weeks from today. That means we are 2 weeks away from Banzuke Sunday in the US.

I keep meaning to put up a banzuke crystal ball post, but I can’t get past the “how many Komusubi will there be?” mess. The fair thing would be four, the recent banzuke committee decisions suggest two, which probably means they’ll go with three 🤦♂️
Tick-tock, tick-tock. I think it will be three. Four would be fun but then the vacuum at the top of the M ranks would produce some truly bizarre placings.
